Overview
Phantom Blood is the first story arc in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga and anime series. It was written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki and originally serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1987 to 1988.
The story is set in the late 19th century, in England. It follows the adventures of a young nobleman named Jonathan Joestar, who is adopted by the Joestar family after his father's death. Jonathan's peaceful life is destroyed when his adopted brother, Dio Brando, arrives and takes over his family's fortune and estate. Dio is an ambitious and cruel villain who seeks to become the most powerful man in the world using an ancient Aztec stone mask that can turn humans into vampires.
Jonathan, with the help of his mentor, William A. Zeppeli, and his friend, Robert E. O. Speedwagon, must stop Dio and his vampire minions from taking over the world. Along the way, they encounter other Stand users and fight to protect their loved ones and their country.
Phantom Blood is known for its intense action sequences, iconic characters, and unique art style. It introduced many of the key concepts and themes that would become a staple of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, such as the powers of the Stand and the importance of family and friendship. It also established the Joestar family as the main protagonists of the series, as each subsequent story arc focuses on a different member of the family.
Here are some of the main characters and elements of the Phantom Blood story arc:
- Jonathan Joestar: The main protagonist of the story, and the first member of the Joestar family to appear in the series. He is a young nobleman with a strong sense of justice and a powerful will. Jonathan is determined to stop Dio and protect his loved ones, even if it means sacrificing his own life.
- Dio Brando: The main antagonist of the story, and one of the most iconic villains in anime and manga history. Dio is a cruel and sadistic individual who seeks to dominate the world using the power of the stone mask. He is a master manipulator and uses his charisma and intelligence to get what he wants.
- William A. Zeppeli: An Italian martial arts master who teaches Jonathan the art of the Ripple. The Ripple is a powerful energy that can be used to enhance the physical and mental abilities of its users, as well as to heal wounds and destroy vampires.
- Robert E. O. Speedwagon: A street thug who becomes friends with Jonathan and helps him in his fight against Dio. Speedwagon is a loyal and resourceful ally, and is known for his distinctive hat and his ability to use his hat as a weapon.
