Paradis Island is a location in the Attack on Titan universe that is both treasured and feared among the residents of the walled world. It is the largest of the three island nations that lie beyond the Walls, guarded and isolated by the survey corps. The island itself is a natural utopia, with lush vegetation, crystal-clear waters, sprawling forests of tall trees, and a diverse array of wildlife. However, beneath the surface lies a dark secret - it harbors the only known base of the Titans, the monstrous creatures that roam the world, seemingly with the sole purpose of devouring humanity. Despite this danger, Paradis Island has endured as the last safe haven for humanity, protecting the remaining peoples of the walled world. The specific location of the island, with its high mountains and treacherous coastal cliffs, makes it difficult for Titans to penetrate the walls and enter the inner sanctum of the island. Paradis Island also boasts a technologically advanced society, with best-in-class innovations like ODM gear that aid the soldiers in fighting against the Titans. The island is also home to several notable landmarks, including the ruins of the walled cities and the towering figure of the Colossal Titan. While the existence of Paradis Island remains a closely guarded secret, with rumors abound of its towering walls and hidden strength, it remains the ultimate destination for those seeking refuge in a world overrun by Titans.

Overview

Paradis Island is the heart of the Attack on Titan universe. Located to the east of Marley, this island is the last known refuge of humanity after the series of devastating events that led to the extinction of civilization. Its lush forests and expansive plains are inhabited by dangerous Titans, whose relentless pursuit of human flesh makes life on Paradis Island a daily battle for survival. The island is surrounded by massive walls to shield it from the Titans, which were built after the Colossal Titan's first appearance 100 years ago. The walls, named Wall Maria, Wall Rose and Wall Sina, have successfully protected the human inhabitants from Titans for over a century. Paradis Island, also known as Eldia, is home to many different cultures and ethnic groups. The majority of the population is made up of the Eldian people who are direct descendants of Ymir Fritz, the First Founding Titan. However, Paradis Island is also inhabited by refugees from Marley, other nations, and survivors of the Great Titan War (Eren Krueger's generation). These various groups have their own customs and traditions, which help to enrich the culture of the island. The society of Paradis Island is composed of three distinct classes: the military, the nobility, and the common people. The military is responsible for defending the walls and fighting Titans. The nobility is composed of the royal family and its supporters who control the government and the economy. Lastly, the common people perform various jobs, such as farming, blacksmithing, and crafting. Despite its relative isolation, Paradis Island has a rich and complex history. It was once part of the Eldian Empire, an ancient superpower that controlled most of the world's territory, and it was from here that the empire's founding titans harnessed their powers to establish their reign. However, after a failed experiment by the Eldian leader, Ymir Fritz, to harness the power of the founding titan to benefit humanity, the Titans emerged. This led to the schism between Eldia and Marley, the nation that succeeded Eldia as the world power. Marleyans, the descendants of Eldia's former enemies, have dominated the world for almost a century, using their advanced technology to build a vast army of Titans. The Titans, colossal humanoids that feed on flesh, have terrorized the inhabitants of Paradis Island and other parts of the world for centuries, leading to widespread death and destruction. The Survey Corps, led by the legendary Captain Hange Zoe, is made up of brave soldiers dedicated to discovering the secrets of the Titans, and to build a more prosperous future for humanity. The story of Attack on Titan has captivated audiences worldwide with its striking visuals, compelling characters, and dark, action-packed plot. Individuals globally have been rendered captivated by the wonders and intricacies of Paradis Island, and its inhabitants' struggles to survive against the Titans. The lore and history surrounding Paradis Island are lush with possibilities, and the future of humanity on the island is ripe with potential.

History

Paradis Island is an island located in the southeastern part of the ocean beyond the Walls. The island is the last known territory of humanity after Titans appeared 107 years before the story begins. The island is also the location of the primary conflict in the story against the invading Titans. The history of Paradis Island dates back centuries before the fall of Wall Maria, when the Eldian Empire controlled most of the world. Over time, the Eldian Empire's vast power led to destructive wars and brought suffering and oppression to countless people. The Empire employed a force of superhuman beings known as Titans, giving them immense power to conquer the world. However, power can be fleeting, the Eldian Empire fell to an uprising from within and the power of the Titans was lost. The remaining Eldians relocated to the land now known as Paradis Island, surrounded themselves with a trio of walls, and created the nation of Wall Maria. The Founding Titan was among the Eldian Empire’s nine Titans, possessing the ability to manipulate memories, control people, and generate walls. The Founding Titan's power is passed down through the Reiss family, the only family to carry the power for over a century. The Reiss family secretly ruled Paradis Island, keeping their knowledge of Eldia's past a secret from the general population and offering their abilities to governments around the world. All of this changed with the arrival of the Colossus and Armored Titans at Shiganshina District, the southernmost Wall of Paradis Island. The Titans destroyed the Wall, allowing even more Titans inside. This was the first time Titans had breached the Wall in over a century and marked the start of humanity's first significant engagement with Titans. From this point on, Paradis Island became a crucial battleground and was no longer left alone. The residents of Paradis Island face constant danger from the Titans that invade their territory, and as their walls begin to deteriorate, the need for action grows. It is only through the power of the Nine Titans and the technology developed by Paradis's Smart Military that the residents of the island have a chance to survive. Paradis Island's military, the Survey Corps, are the bravest and most skilled fighters, tasked themselves with reclaiming Wall Maria and investigate the origin of the Titans. This mission led them to the nation of Marley, and it became clear that the Titans originated from Eldians who were experimented on by Marley. The truth had been hidden from Eldians living on Paradis Island. The Survey Corps battles at home and abroad have consistently demonstrated the strength, intelligence, and resourcefulness of humanity under seemingly insurmountable odds. Humanity's presence on Paradis Island remains vulnerable to the continuous threat from the Titans, but with the use of advanced technology, the power of the Nine Titans, and the unwavering courage of humanity, they have a chance to fight back, reclaim their territory, and protect their people. In conclusion, the history of Paradis Island is full of conflict, war, and hardship with humanity’s constant battle against the Titans and their surrounding world nations. Despite the odds, Paradis' residents and the Survey Corps continue to fight bravely to maintain their existence. The Eldian’s past of tyranny and oppression seems to still plague the island, but with the appearance of a new host, it is up to the residents to make a change or face an inevitable and impending doom.

Background

Paradis Island is a landmass located in the center of the world, isolated from the rest of humanity by a vast sea of saltwater. It is the primary setting for the first few seasons of the Attack on Titan anime. The island is said to be about 100 km long and 30 km wide. Though unexplored, Paradis Island is said to be home to numerous plant and animal species. The island is home to the last vestige of humanity, which has been driven to near extinction by the Titans. Due to the grim circumstances, the city is in a state of perpetual fear, always wary of the possibility of a Titan attack. Most of the population is kept cramped within the walled city confines, only going beyond the walls on rare excursions. The walled city is divided into three distinct regions: the innermost area referred to as the "Wall Sina," the middle region called "Wall Rose," and the outermost "Wall Maria." Wall Maria, the most vulnerable of the three walls, was the first to be toppled by Titans. Due to this infraction, the Titans invaded the walled city and caused massive destruction. The attack resulted in the death of a large percentage of the population. The survivors, who managed to safely flee the Titans, retreated to Wall Rose, the middle area. Wall Rose acted as a buffer zone between the Titans and the remaining territories. The residents of Wall Rose went about their lives, never losing sight of the dangers beyond the walls. Anytime the Titans breached Wall Rose, the entire population was placed in peril. The major cities of the island include Shiganshina, Trost District, Karanes District, and Stohess District. These districts provide all supplies necessary for the citizens' well-being and safety. They also house powerful military organizations whose main responsibility is to keep the Titans' threat at bay. The economy of the island is centered around agriculture. Farms and crops provide the staple food source for the citizens, which is often scarce, as it is not easy to cultivate due to Titan attacks. Sustainable agriculture is the primary concern of the island's leaders, as it ensures that the people have food to last them for as long as possible. The island is also rich in minerals, which provide the central revenue source for the city's operation. The strong economy of Paradis Island plays a crucial role in their military capability against the Titans. Their well-equipped soldiers are provided with the best resources and weapons, which they need to protect against the constant threat of Titan invasion. Aside from being rich in minerals, the island is also home to a subterranean layer of minerals known as "cave minerals." These minerals have contributed to the creation of special buildings, bridges, and even the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear that the soldiers use to fight Titans. The culture of the island is intertwined with the threat of Titans. It is a place where people live in constant fear of the Titans, an environment where individuals are required to be strong and battle-ready. As a result, this has created an extremely martial culture where the primary focus is on surviving the Titans' attacks. Individuals within the society are trained from a very young age to be soldiers. In conclusion, the Paradis Island of the Attack on Titan universe is a place of constant peril, always teetering on the brink of destruction. It is where people live in constant fear of the Titans, where every day is a fight for survival. Despite the harsh conditions on the island, the citizens remain resolute in their determination to thrive. They have built a strong and thriving community that can survive anything, even the Titans who roam just beyond their walls.
